After graduating with his Masters degree in 2000, Tom worked for five years as an associate design architect at Avant Architects in Omaha. Tom worked on various project types including residential, commercial, medical, retail, and religious. Some notable projects included O'Keefe Elevator Company which won a 2002 Contract Magazine award for restoration along with Reaction Salon which took 2nd place in the 2006 Salon of the year awards.
Tom's own personal projects have also been awarded for their excellence in design -- Bear Properties which won a 2002 AIA Central States Regional award along with the Allisma residence which won a 2004 AIA Nebraska citation award. Tom's work has also been published in a number of publications including Residential Architect, Iowa Architect, and DWELL. During his free time Tom has been active with his business partners developing restaurant and lounge concepts in the Omaha area. Blue sushi sake grill, red lounge, RoJA Mexican Grill, and Bianco Ristorante Italiano are all original concepts that have successfully been developed. Tom and his partners plan on developing many more projectss and expanding their operations to other mid-western cities. In 2006 Tom was awarded the 40 under 40 award from the Lincoln Business Journal.
Tom was hired as an adjunct instructor to teach basic design and interior design courses in the '03-'04 and '05-'06 academic year. In the spring of 2006, Tom joined the Interior Design Program as a full-time faculty member.
