Community and Regional Planning

HDR Community Planning and Urban Design Lead Doug Bisson, AICP, ENV SP was a guest speaker in the CRPL 900 Professional Planning Practice course on September 5. Doug earned his MCRP degree at UNL in 1992 after completing his BA at UNL in International Affairs with minors in geography, history, political science and Portuguese. Doug leads a team at HDR that provides community planning and urban design expertise to a wide range of clients nationwide.

Doug’s meeting with students in the Professional Planning Practice course included discussion about the process that he and his team uses when working with client groups. Doug supplemented his talk with illustrations of a wide range of projects on which he and his team have worked. Each project typically includes an intensive planning and design charrette over a period of three or more days. Doug also shared a number of personal experiences that have been important to his career development as a professional planner.

Doug has led a number of major planning and design projects in Omaha, including the plan for Aksarben Village, where HDR’s new world headquarters building is now under construction.
