Associate Professor of Community and Regional Planning Dr. Zhenghong Tang was one of two co-organizers of a workshop “Utilizing Climate Data to Inform Municipal Planning and Increase Resilience” held at UNL’s Gaughan Multicultural Center on Thursday and Friday, March 30-31, 2017. State of Nebraska Climatologist Dr. Martha Shulski worked with Dr. Tang to organize the workshop; she is also Dr. Tang’s co-principal investigator in the research project for which the workshop was an integral activity. The research is funded by a research grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
In his presentation at the workshop Dr. Tang discussed one aspect of his research “Evaluating Local Planning Systems for Extreme Climate Risk Reduction”. Also presenting at the workshop was Jeff Henson, 2013 MCRP alum, who is now the hazard mitigation and emergency planning department manager with JEO Consulting Group in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jeff’s presentation was entitled “Incorporating Climate Adaptations into Local Hazard Mitigation Plans”.
UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green provided opening remarks at the workshop, and UNL College of Architecture Dean Katherine Ankerson also was present to welcome workshop participants.
