Leading by Design: Krista Ninivaggi’s Professional Perspective
Gain professional perspective by following one designer’s path to success. Now leading her own growing firm, K&CO, Krista Ninivaggi strives to encapsulate the design experiences she gained while working at leading firms, such as The Rockwell Group, AvroKo, and SHoP Architects, so that
her vision and work process can fully serve her clients. In this presentation, Ninivaggi will discuss the unique lessons she has learned and how these led to her decision to start her own practice. K&CO launched in 2014 as a boutique firm focusing on hospitality and multifamily residential interiors.
As a native to the New York City area, Krista Ninivaggi gravitated to the city's vibrant nightlife. Between studying architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and summers spent exploring NYC, she found her calling in hospitality design.
After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture from RISD, Krista moved to NYC and started her career at the Rockwell Group with famed theater and hospitality designer David Rockwell. After gaining 4 years of experience in hospitality design and environmental branding, she joined the design firm AvroKO. There, she gained international recognition working with cutting-edge hoteliers and restaurateurs.
In 2011, Krista joined SHoP Architects as the first Director of the newly created Interior Design Group. She successfully led her studio of twenty associates to expand SHoP’s service offering to provide full service interiors and furniture design. Krista and her team completed interiors for projects such as the Barclays Center, Google’s executive offices in Mountain View, CA, Shopbop’s corporate office in NY, which was an honoree at Interior Design magazine’s 2012 Best of Year Awards.
In her newest venture, K&CO, Krista strives to encapsulate her design experiences to date so her vision and work process fully serves her clients.
In 2013, Krista was honored with the title of “Young Gun” by Curbed.com. Most recently, Contract Design Magazine named her 2014's “Designer of the Year.”
Krista is a part-time faculty member at Parsons The New School for Design, and the Vice President of the RISD Alumni Council.
