Salvador Lindquist is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His teaching and research focus on climate-responsive design and equitable access to healthy, resilient environments. Through his work, he explores how cities can better understand and respond to the uneven impacts of environmental stressors—particularly extreme heat—on communities across the Great Plains.
Lindquist leads applied and community-informed research supported by the Landscape Architecture Foundation, the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, and UNL’s Grand Challenges Initiative. His recent projects include the Thermal Toolkit, a design resource that explores emerging technologies for visualizing heat, and a multi-year study on public health, infrastructure, and urban heat in Omaha, Nebraska. His scholarship includes peer-reviewed journal articles, book contributions, and research reports, and has been featured by CNN, The Weather Channel, ASLA’s The Dirt, and the Landscape Architecture Foundation’s webinar series.
At UNL, Lindquist teaches design studios, systems courses, and theory seminars. His recent course, Urban Design Theory: Urbanisms and the Catalysts of Change, examines how cultural, economic, and environmental forces shape the development of cities. His pedagogy emphasizes strategic partnerships with public agencies and nonprofits, including the University of Nebraska Medical Center, City of Omaha Planning Department, U.S. Forest Service, and the National Park Service.
In recognition of his outreach and scholarship, Lindquist was named a Great Plains Fellow in 2023 and awarded the Faculty Award for Excellence in Outreach and Engagement in 2024. He also holds the Enright Endowed Professorship in Landscape Architecture. His service includes mentorship through the UCARE program, faculty sponsorship of the Student ASLA chapter, and participation on the advisory board for Walking in the Footsteps of Our Ancestors, a Mellon Foundation Monuments Project which supports integrating indigenous perspectives in the design of commemorative landscapes in Southeast Nebraska.
