Welcome to the Nebraska College of Architecture. The four programs within the College of Architecture, including Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Community and Regional Planning prepare emerging professionals who are poised to recognize and address global societal challenges in innovative ways. Our graduates are leaders infused with the confidence that comes from embedded and discovered knowledge, as well as the wisdom to apply it to make positive impact.
We build community in an inclusive, innovative environment; we value diverse perspectives, practice kindness and empathy, and teach courageous leadership and informed risk-taking. Our intellectual environment is stronger because of the interplay amongst our close-knit campus community and global professional network. We aspire to much more than developing the base competencies needed for traditional models of practice, reimagining the boundaries of the design and planning professions.
No single discipline can solve all the complex problems facing society today. It is only through collaborative, synergistic and trusting relationships with diverse partners that we will, together, build meaningful answers. The programs and specializations within the College of Architecture develop important disciplinary knowledge, while intentionally crosspollinating within and beyond the college to develop collaborative skills and interdisciplinary shared experiences. For our undergraduates, this begins with a collectively crafted first-year experience (d.ONE) that establishes creativity as a foundation, builds collaboration and leadership skills throughout subsequent years, and culminates in the fourth year Collaborate Studio.
This collaborative, cross disciplinary spirit is also infused in our master programs. Working to create healthier, more livable communities, Community and Regional Planning students collaborate regularly with our design research studios providing data and strategies to shape and inform the design of buildings, neighborhoods and communities, creating a better built environment that's only possible through the synergy of planning and design.
We invite you to explore our programs and join us as we prepare skilled professionals who possess creative confidence, who understand the value of multiple disciplines and their intellectual contribution, who help craft environments that are sustainable and resilient, prosperous and equitable, healthy and beautiful.
Kind Regards,
Kevin G. Van Den Wymelenberg, PhD
