Join Us in Celebrating the Life and Legacy of R. Wayne Drummond, FAIA
Earlier this spring, we shared the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend, Robert Wayne Drummond, FAIA, Dean Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Architecture. A beloved colleague, teacher, mentor and friend, Wayne led the College of Architecture with distinction for more than 11 years, serving as the college's second dean from 2000 until his retirement in 2011.
The Family of Robert Wayne Drummond and the College of Architecture invite alumni, friends, family, colleagues and members of the university community to join us as we celebrate Wayne's extraordinary life and legacy on Sunday, August 16, at 2 p.m. at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Architecture, 400 Stadium Drive, Lincoln, Nebraska 68588.
Together, we will honor a leader whose vision, generosity and unwavering commitment to architectural education shaped generations of students, faculty and alumni and helped position the college for continued success.

A fellow of the American Institute of Architects since 1996, Wayne dedicated nearly four decades to advancing the field of architecture through professional practice, academic leadership and service to the profession. His career included leadership roles at Auburn University, Texas Tech University, the University of Florida and, ultimately, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he found a lasting professional and personal home within the College of Architecture.
Wayne's impact extended well beyond the United States. He served as an educational consultant and evaluator for architectural programs throughout the Middle East and Far East, reflecting his lifelong commitment to design excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Reflecting on his years of service, Wayne once said, "It's always difficult to reflect on one's many years of service, however, they were all great! ... Overall, the major accomplishment was saving the college to remain independent, and it continues to thrive under new leadership."
Among his proudest accomplishments as dean were:
• Establishing and achieving accreditation for the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program.
• Creating the China Study Abroad Program, expanding global learning opportunities for students.
• Strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations across the university that enriched teaching, research and professional practice.
Even after retiring, Wayne remained deeply engaged with the college, mentoring graduate students, teaching courses in health care design and professional practice, and advancing the college's health care initiative. His commitment to students also lives on through the Wayne Drummond Scholarship in Health Care, first awarded in 2016.
For so many in the College of Architecture community, Wayne was more than a dean. He was a trusted mentor, an advocate and a friend whose wisdom, kindness and steadfast belief in the college left an enduring mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the people he inspired, the programs he strengthened and the collaborative culture he helped cultivate.
We hope you will join us as we gather to celebrate Wayne's remarkable life and the lasting impact he made on the College of Architecture, the architectural profession and the countless people whose lives he touched.
