During the 2024 spring semester, College of Architecture students re-imagine the Lincoln Indian Center as a native retreat aiming to help uplift the urban indigenous community of Lincoln and Omaha.
Through extensive cultural training, community engagement events and interdisciplinary collaboration, students imagined outdoor spaces as a place for indigenous people to heal and grow. The re-imagined grounds create spaces to inspire learning, celebrate culture and promote wellness. But this project is much more than physical programming. The design is a symbol of resilience, belonging and empowerment. It is creating an identity for the proud people of the Lincoln Indian Center.
