With demonstrated expertise in interior design curriculum development and academic leadership, Interior Design Director and Associate Professor Lindsey Bahe has been Awarded the Teaching Excellence Award by the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC).

According to IDEC, the Teaching Excellence Award recognizes an individual or team's success in the development and delivery of a specific educational experience that yields exceptional student learning. Bahe was recognized for her work as an educator and director establishing an actionable core mission for the Interior Design Program that incorporates a common thread and operable framework for creative problem solving that spans the program’s interior design studio sequence. Bahe’s team integrates this framework, “Ideate, Fabricate, Permeate and Communicate,” throughout the undergraduate curriculum as core principles in the design process and pedagogy. With strong leadership and support from the faculty, these design values not only elevated the curriculum but also the culture of teaching within the program.

Bahe is a highly respected member and advocate in the interior design education community and this honor adds to her long list of accolades and accomplishments as an educator. In addition to being honored with the Teaching Excellence Award, Bahe has earned UNL’s 2018 College Distinguished Teaching Award; CIDA’s 2017 Award for Excellence – 1st Place; and Design Intelligence’s 30 Most Admired Educators in 2014; and been recognized with UNL’s 2019, 2018, and 2017 Parents’ Recognition Awards.

Joining an elite peerage, Bahe was also named UNL Faculty Fellow for Student Success in 2019, one of seven UNL faculty selected by the Executive Vice-Chancellor’s office. She was named a UNL Department Executive Officer Fellow in 2019, one of five department heads selected by the Executive Vice-Chancellor.

“This recognition speaks to Lindsey’s dedication not only to the continued innovation of our curriculum but the future of the professions,” said College of Architecture Dean Katherine Ankerson. “It is wonderful to see her leadership efforts recognized on such a significant scale propelling our program once again to the national spotlight.” IDEC’s mission is the advancement of interior design education, scholarship and service. IDEC is recognized as the leading organization and authority on interior design education providing resources and professional development opportunities to its members.
