Emeritus Associate Professor of Community and Regional Planning
Kip Hulvershorn was raised in southern Indiana along the Ohio River and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University. After graduation, he served for a year in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he began working in park management in northern Indiana before an opportunity arose to join the University of Nebraska, where he completed his doctorate and spent 33 years on the faculty in Community and Regional Planning.
After retiring from the university in 2006, Hulvershorn spent about ten years as the lead park ranger at Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park, working there five months each year until the summer of 2018. Those years, surrounded by the stunning 423-foot-deep glacial lake and the beauty of the Tetons, were especially meaningful. Eventually, he chose to step away from professional roles entirely to travel, explore, and fully enjoy the natural environment he has long cherished.
