Sand Creek Post & Beam Design Research and Fabrication Grant
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
In accordance with the fund agreement between the donor and the University of Nebraska Foundation, we request nominations/applications for the following grant in the College of Architecture for the period July 1, 2025- June 30, 2026.
ELIGIBILITY & PURPOSE
The recipients of the above award shall be full-time faculty members (Tenured, Tenure Track, and Professor of Practice) of the Architecture program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
SELECTION PROCESS
1. RFP announced: Friday February 8, 2025
2. Proposals due: Friday March 28, 2025
a. Brief narrative, up to 2 double-spaced pages, describing a new or on-going research project or creative activity on the topic of wood research and fabrication.
b. Current curriculum vitae.
c. Budget sheet is required. In list format, provide the anticipated expenses for this project. Include the line items and amounts and total your planned expenses.
***All three requirements above need to be collated into one PDF for submission.
3. Funding period: 1-year; July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026.
4. Review: Exterior reviews will be obtained by the Dean’s Office. Evaluation criteria described in the fund agreement and the stated purpose of the award will be used to guide reviews. The most qualified candidate will be recommended to the Dean. The Dean will make the final selection. Review criteria include:
a. Originality: the project demonstrates an innovative and challenging idea; critical, independent thinking; advanced scholarship; a new or experimental approach.
b. Potential for impact: the project makes a meaningful contribution to discourse and/or to the field; expands knowledge; is a catalyst for future inquiry; raises awareness of an understudied issue; promotes diversity in subject matter, participants, and audience.
c. Feasibility: the project has clear and realistic goals, timeframe, work plan, and budget.
d. Capacity: applicant possesses qualifications and/or knowledge; demonstrates the ability to carry out the project successfully; has access to necessary resources outside of the grant request.
e. Collaboration: applicants must collaborate with students in some capacity. Priority will be given to applicants who partner with a professional architecture office with experience in mass timber design/construction.
5. Decision announced: At the Graduation Recognition Ceremony in May.
FUNDS AVAILABLE AND TERMS OF USE
Funding requests should not exceed $5,000. Funds may not be used as faculty salary/stipend.
