Master of Science in Architecture Application

We are very pleased you are considering a graduate education in the College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We offer the Master of Science degree, a research-oriented graduate program in Architecture. As a prerequisite for entering either Master of Science program, an applicant must have an undergraduate degree in architecture, interior design, or a closely related field. Those who seek a first professional degree in architecture or interior design should apply to our 3 year Master of Architecture or undergraduate Interior Design programs.

Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted for admission to the Master of Science in Architecture degree program on a rolling, continuing basis. Students may be accepted for admission in the fall, spring, or summer sessions. For priority consideration for financial assistance, applicants are urged to submit completed applications by March 1st for fall semester admission and November 1st for spring semester admission.

To be fully eligible for financial aid, scholarships and teaching assistantships students are encouraged to submit their application in fully by February 1st.

Application Requirements

Students must apply to the Office of Graduate Studies.

Step 1:

Transcripts can now be uploaded onto your MyRed account. To view a step by step video tutorial on transcript uploading, and to learn more about transcript requirements, please visit UNL Graduate Studies.

After completing the application you will be issued a University of Nebraska Identification Number (NU ID). Your NU ID will allow you to sign into the University's online records system - MyRed. There you can view a list of application materials received or still needed by the Office of Graduate Studies.

 

Step 2:

Please submit the following materials:

  • Three references will be asked to submit letters of recommendation electronically

  • Research goals addressing the following questions:

  • Why do you want a master’s degree?

  • What are your research interests?

  • What are your academic goals?

  • Is there a faculty member with whom you would like to work?

  • Portfolio of Design Work:

  • Portfolio may be submitted electronically to skuenning2@unl.edu or sent to

  • UNL College of Architecture 232W Architecture Hall Lincoln, NE 68588-0107

  • Portfolios will only be returned if a return envelope and postage are provided, or if arrangement is made for pickup at the architecture programs office.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

International applicants should send all the information requested above, plus:

  • A TOEFL or IELTS score. Exemptions for the English proficiency requirement are granted for non-native speakers who have received a bachelor's or more advanced degree either from a U.S. institution or from a university outside the U.S. at which English is the official language of instruction.

All qualified students are encouraged to apply. Research and teaching assistantships are available on a competitive basis.

Important Notes:

  • It is important to realize that MyRed reflects your application status at the University level. Though materials required by Graduate Studies may be complete, this does not mean your application is complete as far as department requirements are concerned.

  • You must submit application materials online. Be sure to finalize and 'submit' your application when you are satisfied with all materials submitted.

  • Recommendation letter writers can be contacted automatically. Reference writers will be able to electronically upload their letters through a secure web page.

  • The graduate application system reflects application status at the departmental level. After all required materials have been provided and application finalized, this online application system will be a valuable source of information to learn about the application status.
