The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) has given Associate Professor and Program Director David Karle and BVH Design Principal and Lecturer Mark Bacon from the University of Nebraska’s College of Architecture an Honorable Mention for their 2022 AIA/ACSA Practice and Leadership Award.

Over this past month there have been many leadership changes at the University of Nebraska. Recently, dean Katherine Ankerson was named as UNL’s executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. While we are excited for her, we will miss Kathy’s leadership and enthusiasm for academic excellence that has propelled the college to new levels for nearly six years as our dean.

We are excited to announce that the Sand Creek Post & Beam Design and Fabrication grant awards from the College of Architecture were awarded to Professor Jeffrey L. Day and Associate Professor Jason Griffiths this semester.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, W. Cecil Steward, Emeritus Dean and Emeritus Professor of Architecture, who was a colleague, teacher, mentor, friend and so much more to the alumni, students, staff and faculty of the College of Architecture which he led proudly for over 27 years as its dean.

Renowned internationally for her distinct design voice, Anne Marie Duvall Decker, FAIA will be giving the next Hyde lecture titled “Public Work: Foundations” at 4 p.m., November 12, at Richards Hall, room 15, UNL City Campus. This lecture is proudly sponsored by AIA Nebraska.

The College of Architecture is excited to announce internationally renowned design activist Jeffrey Hou, professor of landscape architecture and the director of Urban Commons Lab at the University of Washington, Seattle, will be giving the next Hyde lecture titled “Design for Resilience” at 4 p.m., October 22^nd via Zoom Webinar.

Working to elevate design excellence, student engagement and innovation, Nebraska-based Timberlyne, manufacturer of pre-built post and beam kits, pledges $50,000 to the College of Architecture to establish the Sand Creek Post & Beam Design and Fabrication Fund which will provide competitive grants to support wood construction research and fabrication.
